Part 3.0: Digital Therapeutic of the Future

Overview: Once a firm has begun to understand patient behavior and alter their experience, it is time to focus on the future! Where are digital therapeutics going and how are we going to get there? At this stage in the game, digital healthcare companies can take a step back and look at the bigger picture and navigate a plan for growth.

1. Wearables to Invisibles: In the next 10 years, wearables will be largely replaced with imbedded invisible technology. There will be less need for the patient to proactively engage when a DTx solution collects and broadcasts data autonomously.

2. Tech Cross Talk: Individual smart devices do their respective jobs quite well, but they’re poor at interacting with one another. For example, if a patient has a smart pacemaker and a smart artificial heart valve, they don’t “talk” to one another, nor with the EMR.

3. Environmental Invisibles: Cars, homes, schools, workplaces, and roads all have the potential to be a healthcare space. BMW currently has technology that can perform an ECG on a passenger through their clothing.

4. Predictive Medicine:  Technology that predicts adverse health events in order to avoid them is critical. Prevention, prediction, personalization, and [4th ‘p’ word] will drive technology change over the next 10 years.
