When we talk about extreme shyness, we are talking about social anxiety. Yes, social anxiety disorder is more than just shyness; at its extreme, it can lead to a persistent fear of being watched and judged.

Per the National Institute on Mental Health, social anxiety is a common form of anxiety where an individual experiences anxiety or fear in moments they may be judged or evaluated by others.
